IT'S VIVA LAS VEGAS FOR JOE: IT is the place where all the great singers have performed – from Frank Sinatra to Elvis Presley.
Now, Hull-born Joe Longthorne is set to join their ranks by appearing at a Las Vegas mega hotel in his biggest ever show in the city of casinos and bright lights.
Details of the event are yet to be finalised but it is hoped that Joe will support American comedian Don Rickles at the 1,886-room Orleans Hotel.
Despite performing for more than four decades, the singer shows no signs of slowing down, with the Las Vegas gig likely to join more than 100 tour dates already announced – including a stop at Hull New Theatre in April and Bridlington's Spa in July.
It comes as Joe prepares for the release in spring of The Official Joe Longthorne Autobiography.
Joe gave journalist Chris Berry unfettered access to his life over six months, last year, in order for him to ghost write the story.
Mr Berry said the entertainer had performed in Las Vegas before, in 2003, but the forthcoming show would be bigger.
He said the opportunity arose after Eliot Weisman, who managed Sinatra, saw Joe perform at an awards ceremony honouring legendary singer Engelbert Humperdinck, whom Weisman now manages.
Mr Berry said: "Over in the US they are after these types of performers – crooners, like Sinatra.
"Joe appeals to the audiences there, they enjoy his performances – he has a fabulous voice which is well rounded."
The new book charts Joe's rise to fame, his bankruptcy, his nervous breakdown, and his 20-year battle with cancer.
Preorders are being taken for the book. The first 100 copies will be signed and will include a limited edition CD of Joe's earliest recordings, never before released.
